Our Philosophy
Working in the field of Occupational Therapy in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, I was
introduced first hand to the problems that face seniors. Much of the work was with
adults, helping them to remain safe and independent in their homes. Some of this work
was in assisted living and long term care settings, helping seniors maintain as much
independence as possible. In all of these settings products were being introduced that
would help the elderly maintain as active, functional and independent a lifestyle as
possible.
When people age they may experience hearing or vision loss, loss of grip strength,
inability to move from sit to stand without assistance, difficulty toileting or dressing
independently or difficulty with any other activity of daily living. There are products
available that enable someone who may be losing some level of function to remain
independent despite their functional loss. Many people are not fully aware of the
products available. If they are aware of these products, they may not know where to
find them.
Having explored many different avenues of acquiring assistive devices, it was
discovered that they can be difficult to find. Many times one person may be in need of
multiple products which will need to be purchased from multiple locations as they are
not readily available in one convenient location. After the conclusion of this research, it
was decided that there is a need for an all inclusive location for purchasing elderly
needs items and the creation of The Elder Edge Company began.
